Cincinnati Man Charged with Federal Gun Crime After Brawl
A Cincinnati man involved in a July brawl faces federal firearm charges for illegal possession.
A Cincinnati man charged locally for a July 26 brawl in downtown Cincinnati now faces federal firearm charges. A federal grand jury indicted Montanez Merriweather, 34, for illegally possessing a firearm as a previously convicted felon.
The indictment states that Merriweather had a 9mm pistol on July 2, violating federal law prohibiting felons from possessing firearms.
Merriweather is currently in state custody on local charges of assault, felonious assault, and aggravated riot. Possessing a firearm as a felon can lead to a 15-year federal prison sentence.
