No More Checks From Uncle Sam
The U.S. Treasury will cease paper checks for federal payments by September 30, 2025.
The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced the federal government will stop issuing paper checks for most federal payments on September 30, 2025. Electronic payment methods will be required for receiving federal benefits.
Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent stated, "Reducing paper checks helps reduce fraud and theft, and speeds up payments." Most Americans already receive payments electronically.
For those still using paper checks, options include enrolling in direct deposit by contacting the paying agency or visiting GoDirect.gov. Those without a bank account can use resources like FDIC: GetBanked or MyCreditUnion.gov to open one.
Additionally, individuals can sign up for a Direct Express® Debit Mastercard®, a Treasury-sponsored card for receiving payments electronically.
While it may look like progress to some it is just one more step towards the digital currency and no steps towards fiscal responsibility.
