Hawaii Coach Gets 33 Years for Child Exploitation Crimes

A Hawaii basketball coach received over 33 years in prison for exploiting and harassing minors.
A Hawaii man was sentenced to over 33 years in prison and a lifetime of supervised release for crimes involving child exploitation and harassment. "The defendant was a youth basketball coach who shamelessly sexually exploited, abused, harassed, and threatened his young victims," said Acting Assistant Attorney General Matthew R. Galeotti. The U.S. Attorney's Office will continue to seek justice for victims of these crimes. Dwayne Yuen, 52, from Honolulu, used his position as a basketball coach to exploit at least ten victims from 2005 to 2023. He groomed victims by providing gifts and spent inappropriate time alone with them. Yuen engaged in sexual conversations and sent explicit images. He threatened victims to prevent them from reporting the abuse, including threats of rape and death. Yuen exploited financially vulnerable players by paying them for explicit content. He also harassed former players with frequent messages.
