A New York woman pleaded guilty to defrauding Medicaid and paying health care kickbacks at two Brooklyn adult day cares.
"The defendant orchestrated a massive scheme to defraud Medicaid," said Acting Assistant Attorney General Matthew R. Galeotti, citing $68 million in fraudulent billing.
Zakia Khan, 54, led the scheme using two day care centers and other entities to disguise fraud proceeds. She paid bribes to Medicaid recipients, billing for services not rendered.
Khan agreed to forfeit $5 million, including properties and valuables. She faces up to 15 years in prison. Her sentencing is set for Jan. 28, 2026.
Officials emphasized protecting taxpayer funds and ensuring accountability within health care systems. Investigations were conducted by HHS-OIG, HSI, and NYPD.
