Trump and Putin: No Deal... Yet.

Presidents Trump and Putin discussed Ukraine and bilateral relations. However, despite polite words being said, no immediate success has been achieved.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump held a joint press conference following their talks in Anchorage, Alaska, on August 16, 2025. The main topic of the meeting was the situation in Ukraine. Putin expressed Russia's security concerns and the need for a long-term resolution that considers Russia's interests. Trump showed interest in resolving the conflict, intending to inform Ukrainian President Zelensky and NATO leaders of the discussions. Both leaders agreed on the potential for cooperation in trade, energy, and technology, stressing the importance of moving from confrontation to dialogue. Trump acknowledged progress but stated no agreements were finalized. He praised the relationship with Putin and expressed hope for peace in Ukraine. He also mentioned the false claims about Russian interference in U.S. elections - one of the topic he is occupied these weeks. Putin invited Trump to Moscow for future discussions, which Trump considered a possibility. Both leaders underlined the need for continued dialogue.
