Parubiy was hit by 7 or 8 bullets and died at the scene. Law enforcement has opened an investigation and is working to identify the suspect. Parubiy, 54, was a well-known political figure. He co-founded the Social-National Party of Ukraine in the 1990s, later served as commandant of the Maidan self-defense during the 2013–2014 protests, and went on to become chairman of the Verkhovna Rada from 2016 to 2019.
