California Babysitter Sentenced to 100 Years for Child Abuse

Brittney Lyon received a 100 years-to-life sentence for facilitating the abuse of young girls by her boyfriend Samuel Cabrera.
Brittney Lyon, 31, pleaded guilty to multiple felonies, including lewd acts upon children and kidnapping. Her boyfriend, Samuel Cabrera, received eight life terms without parole in 2021. The abuse was uncovered in 2016 after a victim confided in her mother. Police found evidence of abuse in Cabrera’s car, leading to their arrests. Lyon used a babysitting website to connect with victims, particularly targeting those with special needs. She coordinated with Cabrera to abuse the children and documented the crimes. Additional victims remain unidentified. Despite her sentence, Lyon could petition for parole at age 50 due to elder parole laws. Senate Bill 286, supported by the DA’s office, seeks to prevent convicted sex offenders from early parole. The bill is stalled in the Senate Appropriations Committee. Senate Minority Leader Republican Brian Jones urged legislative action to close loopholes allowing early release for such offenders.
